Monutain Bike
Bormio and its surroundings offer a unique opportunity for cycling and mountain bike enthusiasts: the surrounding peaks have now rightfully entered the list of historic "Great Climbs" given that some of the most beautiful and important pages have been written about them of the Tour of Italy.
You too will be able to compete with these sacred monsters of cycling, attempting to climb the Stelvio Pass, or tackling the ramps of the Gavia Pass or the terrible Mortirolo Pass just to mention the most famous, without forgetting the thousand other opportunities that the area of Bormio for two-wheel lovers.
In the past, these climbs have often proved decisive for winning the final pink jersey, mercilessly rejecting the primacy ambitions of many.
Alongside these now legendary climbs, there are an infinite number of other routes in the area made famous by the passage of the Giro d'Italia and beyond, such as the Bormio 2000 climb (stage finish in 2004), the Foscagno Pass and the Eira Pass which lead to Livigno (stage arrival in 2006) as well as the climb to the Torri di Fraele and the Cancano Lakes. With a short trip you can also attempt to climb the Bernina Pass which leads to Sant Moritz.
Stelvio and Gavia are also the protagonists of numerous cycling events, both competitive and dedicated to simple cyclists who want to try to reach their summit. Above all, the Re Stelvio, a race which, in recent years, thanks to Mapei, has become a real event capable of attracting more than a thousand enthusiasts to its hairpin bends.
During the summer, Stelviobike and Gaviabike are worth mentioning, two events (normally the first in September and the second in July) in which the roads leading to the top of the two passes are entirely dedicated to cyclists with total closure to traffic.
There are countless routes and paths for mountain bikes too: in addition to tracks specifically created and dedicated specifically to them, some of which reach three thousand meters above sea level, most of the mountain refuges located in the surrounding valleys can also be easily reached by bicycle .
Extreme sports lovers will be able to experience the thrill of freeriding at the Mottolino Bike Park in Livigno, one of the eleven Kona Groove Approved Bikeparks in the world and four in Europe, where it is possible to try their hand at various trails suitable for all abilities. Various special packages and services are available including Kona bike rental, Freeride School, restaurant service and après-bike.
Snowboard
The Bormio 2000 snowpark extends over an area 600 meters long alongside the most popular slope in Bormio, the Stella Alpina, starting from an altitude of 2300 meters up to 2000 meters of Bormio2000.
The area is completely fenced and usable by freestyle people, whether they have a snowboard or a pair of skis on their feet.
The park was born thanks to the will of the S.I.B. Bormio plant company to have an area specifically dedicated to snowboarders, the company immediately demonstrated its belief in this project by investing heavily and allowing us to have one of the best parks in the Alps right from the start!

Mountaineering
The Alta Valtellina is a boundless theater for ski mountaineering trips and ascents of every degree, duration and level of difficulty and some areas or some peaks are also well known on an international level, think of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain group - which comes close to 4,000 meters above sea level - or at Cima Piazzi in Valdidentro, which with its 3438 meters is also famous for being the mountain that generates the crystalline Levissima waters, which everyone can have on their table, represented on the label of the well-known mineral water . Bormio is the ideal starting area for these excursions, being right in the geographical center of Alta Valtellina, but it also offers the possibility of making some beautiful trips starting right from the town.
Every year in February the local CAI Section, which you can contact for information on the routes, organizes the Folgore Ski Mountaineering Rally starting from the town.
In short, in Bormio, in winter, there is no shortage of sports and entertainment options in nature. The charm of immersing yourself, even just for a few hours, in snowy woods or admiring boundless views is unique and certainly recharges you after long months spent perhaps within the walls of a city.
